Ok .. how do I disconnect my 65HP Mercury outboard?

It has 2 cables that go into a rubber boot on the front of the motor, then go into some contraption that I can only imagine that someone cooked up in a nightmare..

So how do I disconenct them?

Oh yeah, it's a 67 Mercury 650..

Re: Mercury Motor disconnection

ROb, If you remove the cowling you will see that the two cables attach to the throttle arm and shift lever. There is two 3/8" nuts that when removed, will free the cable ends. The barrel nuts on the cables are held by a clamp. Grab the ends of the clamp with your fingers and it will unhook. Now the barrel nuts and cables can be removed. It is very tight, but you should not need any tools to remove these.

Re: Mercury Motor disconnection

Thank you, that was what I was looking for. Got it disconnected and on a homemade outboard stand a friend and I knocked together. Thanks!
