Hi, Opinions please! I have an opp to buy a 1997 Mercury 115HP Classic Motor, with the 2/4 cylinder option. Any comments/thoughts? Asking 3000.00 for the motor alone and I will need to get controls and prop. Thanks!

Sounds very expensive to me for a 7 year old motor with no controls.

I have the '03 90 Merc. I've not heard anything bad about the 2/4 switching but it kept me from buying and opted for the 90 instead.

2/4s are nice for fishing, not so nice for waterskiing. Can't get a good even throttle between 1800 and 2200 rpms. For wakeboarders and learning skiers, that seems to be about where you need to run them. Motor can't decide whether to run on 2, 3, or 4 in that range. Price is definately too high! Installed, with controls...then it'd be close to worth that.

Not sure what you mean by "Classic". They still make them (not for long!). The classic ones have 6 cylinders.

The 'classic' refers to the cowl decals. They look like the old red bands.

Chris..........
