15HP Carb question

I just received a 2003 used 15HP outboard that I bought through IBoats. I took the cover off and there is no cover over the carburator throat. You can see straight into it. Is it missing or do they not cover it?

Also, there was a small plastic "arm" with a metal pin in it, marked 42156. It is listed on a parts website as a lever. I do not have my shop manual yet and could not find where this part attaches. Any ideas???

Tygh,

No cover over the carb throat is normal for outboards. Was this level attached to anything or just laying in the bottom of the engine? I can't find it in my drawings.

Chris..........

Re: 15HP Carb question

I found out where it came from when I put the boat in the water. It is the pin that holds the linkage to the shift lever on the tiller. So, I was unable to shift into gear. I'll be interested to see how Iboats wants to handle this.

iboats is selling used motors??? Or did you respond to a Classified? I know iboats acts a middleman for rebuilt stuff. I've been away for awhile. I don't remember them selling used stuff.

Re: 15HP Carb question

Oh! They sell Program motors which means it was previously used at a resort or Disney Land or something. They come with factory warranties. Any authorized Merc dealer should be able to help...if they want to. They didn't sell it, so sometimes it can be challenging to find one that is eager to assist you. Their Dealer Agreement requires it, however. Merc authorized Service Only shops eagerly accept such motors. Go thru iboats only as a last resort...it'll just slow the process although I'd bet someone has already contacted you.
