where is my temp sender?

I hve what iI believe is an 82 90hp merc inline 6 (#on pwr trim 6186953) i have rewired the entire boat and am looking to hook up a temp guage. I am unable to find a temp sensor on motor. There is a small hole next to #1 apark plug is that it? I have a quicksilver ctl box that has wires for tach etc comming out of the front when i opened the box there was no alarm inside?? can i hook up directly off crl box? Does this motor have a sensor? Discharge hose goes from top of head directy to hole no sensor or thermostat?Looked in manual doesnt address problem except for stating tan wire in ctl box to alarm not guage. have rewired the whole boat this is the last connection any input would be greatly appreciated.

most the old mercs had no temp alarms. ya just ran them till they quit and put pistons in them.<br />I think it was a cost cutting move for brunswick. you can put a temp sensor on it but I dont know if merc ever made one.<br /> good luck and keep posting

Jethrow, Does your motor have a thermostat? Most (all???) of the inline sixes didn't have one. I recommend that you install a water pressure gauge instead. It will tell you if your water pump is working properly. You may be able to use one of the wires in the harness, sometimes that had extras. If not you can route the gauge wire out where the control cables exit the motor and use some sort of black wire covers on the cables to hide it.

The trouble with most idiot lights, warning horns, trouble buzzers, and gauges are that they just run your day a few seconds earlier than the soon to blow motor will anyway. Use it and carry a paddle........(or for a sensor look for a rubber plug with a wire going into it near the top of the CYL head).
