Hi guy's.
My mate Stan has a circa 1985 2cyl 60hp electric start and it has been stood for 3 years. His complaint is that the reverse lock will not dis-engage, therefore he cannot lift the engine to tow or otherwise.

My mate Stan is getting on a bit now and I would like to do anything to help him so any clues as to the problem or what tools/spares to take with me would make an Old Stan very very happy..

Cheers Guy,s
Regards Keith...B....

Keith, Is the motor in forward? Some models require forward to disengage the reverse lock!

If that fails, the lock itself may be out of adjustment. It looked like it could be adjusted with an open end wrench, after removal of the cotter pin, although I have never done it.

Oh yeah - bring a BFH (big hammer) just in case you need to persuade it (just kidding)

Yep the old fart has tried forward gear etc, something isn't moving. I personally haven't seen the problem yet, it may be easy, (here's hoping). Just sat here :D in the dry trying to get an angle before I get down there..

Make an Old Fart really happy....Regards (not me)..Keith B.....

Just looked at the parts breakdown Chris and I think you're right, doesn,t seem to be much room around the top of that by the picture I have, I think it,s going to be Eezit time and a pair of mole grips and take it slowly..

Cheers Keith..

P.S. Would it still go into gear if that was the case or would it be stiff on the remote..

On a manual trim motor,You need to put in forward, remove the lock bar from the transom (slides out) and then the motor will tilt up. Spray some WD down the locking rod (front of leg) and gently tap the hooks with a wooden mallet. The shift cam has just frozen against the push rod. Don't know if you can do it on the power trim units, bit it worked for me on my manual trim motor.
