Will a 1965 lower unit fit onto a 1974 motor?

I can buy a completely rebuilt lower unit <br /><br />(as well as the rest of the motor, controls, etc.. that dosnt have any spark)<br /><br />that has new bearings, seals, and gaskets, done this January. All for $100. <br /><br />I am going to pick up this motor tonite if the lower end will fit on my motor. <br /><br />Do you think it will? Thanks guys.

Knowing the horsepower and number of cylinders would help. Assuming they're from the same motor family, then probably. But you need to be more specific for a more specific answer.

i havnt asked him how many cylinders it is but his is a 50HP, same as mine.<br /><br />So his is a 1965 Mercury 50HP<br />Mine is a 1974 Mercury 50HP <br /><br />Mine is a 4cylinder i'm not sure what his is.<br /><br />Thanks for the reply WillyB

Unless the splines are different, it should fit provided they both have the same shaft lenth.
