Just did a compression on a 1996 150 EFI. I removed all the plugs and did a quick check. I did not ground the wires which I now see is the proper way for an outboard. In reviewing past posts some advise, doing this or you could burn up a control box. Please tell me I'm ok. Thanks

I too would like to know how to ground the plugs or wires when checking compression.
Just curious what techniques people use to ensure grounding of plugs or wires.

well if I am not checking spark and just compression I jut pull the stop lanyard. this does not work on 95 up johnnyrude but works on mercs. if not then open the wallet and buy an s-48 or equivalent spark tester

Never bothered grounding or disabling the spark. Just make sure I didn't touch the wires while checking the compression. Never blown a pack.

Chris.......

Re: Did I screw up?

I have rigged up a cheap series of leads that run from each plug boot to a common ground... It looks crazy but it works.... I remove every plug lead when doing a test and just pull the plug that goes to the cylinder I'm measuring. Repeat as necessary.. I've always done it this way so the engine wouldn't fire up...

But that stop lanyard thing is a great idea!!!!
