What year and model, etc is your engine? Loosen the cap on the onboard tank and check the flow there, it should over flow when full, then tighten just enough to stop overflow as they have a tendency to crack if on too tight. My 89 200 hp operates on pressure from the engine, there are 2 hoses from the engine, pressure goes to the remote tank and forces oil up to the onboard tank.

92 175 efi, the problem is after the oil pump, the oil is getting to the pump, there is air in the outlet hose from the oil pump, between the oil pump and the vapor separator that I cannot get rid of

I am assuming there may be air in there. The oil just drops in the VST tank. There is no "airtight or vaccumm" on that hose. I just dumps into the top of the vst tank. What is the problem you are having?

Are the tanks being pressurized?

nope it is just like a big carberator bowl. Just a needle and float and excess vapor that settles out of the VST are routed back into the intake for emissions purposes. The fuel just settles there momentarily to releive all vapors. Then it pushed from a high pressure pump in the side of the vst tank to the fuel rail. It goes through the fuel rail and returns back to the vst where it is then regulated on top of the vst tank. Again what kind of problem are experiencing?

coyote65, I completely understand your concern. I saw your posting in related topics. Appears as though you posted some time ago. The outlet hose that has air, did you ever find out what you needed to do? You may or may not get this message since it was a topic a long time ago. Worth a try.
