97 mercury 225 carberated

I was looking for a poppet valve on the heads of my friends 97 225 hp carbed merc. Does it have one and where? There are nothing on the heads except a thermostat that we changed.

Check bottom starboard side below the ignition switch boxes.

If you have the sr# of the motor, go to Mecury Express parts on line and you will be able to find a picture of it. But, like RobaloFish said, that is generally where it is located, mine anyway on my 200hp Merc. Should be 2 thermostats, one each head. I just changed mine on Friday, and was I shocked at the salt build up. I have at least 50-60 % BETTER WATER FLOW on the tell-tale now.<br />Do you (he) have a problem? Poppets don't go bad that often.

I looked at my neighbors 225 merc today . On the right( starboard side) under the power head is a round plate. You might want to look at that. Usually they are on the heads but I could not find them on my friends.
