Do you have any ideas on where I might start looking to see why my 60 hp outboard Merc. motor won't even hint of trying to start . It's like I have no battery at all. Not only is the key of no use, but the motor tilt at the boat console doesn't work. The tilt at the switch on the motor does work. The battery is good and the cables tight. Horn, lights etc. work at the console. I did hear a beep one time when I tried the key in the choke position. Have seen this one other time but later the same day I tried and the motor started. Haven't been out for about a month and this is what happened when I finally tried it.

Sounds like some corrosion on some electrical connectors somewhere between the motor and the front console. Might be corrosion in the ign sw contacts.

Go to the Engine FAQs, Paul.

Do the troubleshooting in the "Outboard wont start" article.

Good luck. :)

pull aprt the main electric plug on right side of engine and make sure all connections are clean, then replace making sure it goes all the way home.also check fuse on same side of engine, these often corrode as well.also try spaying wd40 type lube into key housing on control box this is just a few things to try but these might just doit.the reason that this happened before then started later realy does sound like dirty connection somewhere as stated before by rayjay. and being as you have trim on engine working means its from engine to control box, hope this helps
