Power Loss

I just picked up a tunnell hull with a 1986 mercury 2.4 litre. The temp gauge does not work but a pee stream comes out nicely. After running hard for a few runs at normal rpm's, the boat starts losing power at top end but won't completely die. After sitting and ideling for a while it seems good to go for another short time. It has a hydolic jack plate with a low water pick-up but maybe I have it to far up  . Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Power Loss

Clean your fuel filters and check the operation of your fuel pump.

Re: Power Loss

I tried that but it didn't help. I drove the boat around at 2500 rpm for quite a while today and then right at the end I started to get on it and it died but started right back up and took off. darn thing!

Re: Power Loss

I had the same problem with my merc 115. I replaced the filter cleaned out the carbs, fuel pump with the same results. I purchased a fuel pump rebuild kit and it fixed the problem. On high speeds the pump was leaking out of the weep hole and creating my loss in fuel pressure. At idle and low rpm it would not leak.
