My three year old decided to use th hydrofoil on my merc 9.9 as a step to climb into the boat. Needless to say, it broke off. Can it be epoxied, welded. If I weld it, do I have to remove all the gears and seals? I have a tig here at work.

Thanks,

Rick

Leave the lube in there. It helps even the heat. Wrap what you can with a wet towel and TIG away. :)

Rick, if you epoxy it I don't think it will hold and the peice will be in the lake, the tig is the anweser but because the driveshaft seals are very close to that area I would remove the water pump and base so the seals and pump won't be damaged. If think you will build alot of heat in the unit welding it you could cold pack the rest of it--Bob

My son's 85 Force had split about 10" from being dropped. We had it tig welded about a year ago and has not had any problems. Everything was intact and wrapped as WlllyB suggested. Maybe we got lucky but so far so good.

your welding a heat sink. takes a lot of heat to melt a seal. if your worried a wet towel may help. tig them all the time around here.
