water pump telltale stream

After rebuilding the lower unit on my 1983 25hp the stream is intermittant. I replaced the impellor as directed in the manual. It seems the stream starts when the engine gets warm then as the water coming out of the engine cools down the stream stops. I have had this engine for a long time and don't recall the on and of cycle like this. Is there a thermostat or is the impellor in wrong? As you probably know taking the lower unit off on this model is a bit of a pain. But if I must....

dhutzn, I can't help you on your 1983 motor.Late 1984 motors did have a thermostat, and therefor the tell-tale came and went as it opened and closed.

Maybe someone updated your motor to a newer water cover,or there may have been an update.Do you have a thermostat?

DHP

PS also we don't always observe everything our engines do when they are running OK.It's too much fun boating.

Where would the thermostat be on an outboard?
