Hello,
first im from Germany and my englisch is very bad, but I need Special help! Sorry.
I have a Mercury classic 50 with 40-50 PS and 4 Cylinders. I dont know the Year of built. The Serialnumber is: 9560474. I think it comes from Belgien??!!
My problem is, that I can not unfasten the lower unit. I have unfixt th 3 srews at the back and the 2 in the front (1 left and 1 right). The lower unit comes for 5 millimeters and nothing more. When I take pressure on it, I can not rotate the fly wheel.
Now I took the motor on the head, drilled a big hole in the housing and put oil on the shaft. It must be rusted in the motor
What I am doing wrong?

please give me a anwser! And please in a light english :))

Thx

Re: Mercury 50 Impeller can not unfasten lower unit

I have done this on a seized motor by turning it upside down and pouring diesel into the mid unit through a drill hole. then leaving to soak for a week.Diesel soaks in better than oil. I do not know if that way is good for a running engine though.
Any ideas anyone?

Sorry I can't offer any direct advise but I would do a search on this forum for "lower unit stuck" or "can't remove lower unit". This topic has come up many times and I'm sure the answer is posted here somewhere. Click on the red SEARCH at the top of the page. Good luck.

Hi Wolfer -- Did you disconnect the shift rod?

(I lived in Zweibrucken for a year many years ago. Enjoyed my visit - especially the beer and nockwurst).

Hi
As with other advice you've been given I always use diesel and not oil to soften things up often leaving em in the workshop for a week or so. The shift rod must be disconnected before the gearcase will come away

hello
no shift dissconect on the 50 merc. its two splined slip fits shafts. however the splines have been known to sieze together as will the drive shaft to crank splines. this is usually caused by excessive maint :) :) . watch the shift rod as you move the lower upand down. if it moves much it may be the shift rod splines. some times I have to drive wood wedges between the housings and force it apart. and occasionally they never come apart.
