Re: Oil Warning Siren

It is a major tear down to replace the drive gear. It sounds as if it might be stripped out, you can pull it out and look for the black plastic rapped around the shaft. The dummy gear is important because it holds the gear in place, if the gear is spinning it could come loose in your motor causeing damage. There are many old treads in this forum on exactly how to disconnect and pre-mix. Good luck and let us know.
CU

--------------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!

CU2NITE, the dummy 'gear' retains the driven shaft bushing, which can cause a bunch of trouble if it comes loose inside.

Re: Oil Warning Siren

hello to all,
Awhile back I had having similar
problem with a alarm(s). Thought it was oil related, thought it was heat trouble, checked everything i thought. Then one day I find a broken wire for temp (tan).Could not beleive it, the wire looked like it had been cut! Spliced it back and everything is cool and quiet. So if you haven't solved you trouble yet double & triple check all your alarm(s)wires

Good Luck,
Boo

Re: Oil Warning Siren

Thanks Boo.

I am suspecting something like that--a failure in the system (wire, sending unit, etc.) rather than a pump failure.

I see that it's been 2 weeks since I premixed and disconnected the warning siren. We have been using the boat a little more than normal, so I have gone through close to half the fuel in our on-board tank.

We had guests the day before yesterday and just to see I reconnected the warning siren. It did not go off.

The engine is smoky all the time, so my gut feeling is that it is still getting oil from the injection system.

Now that you have the link to a shop manual, I would suggest reading and following the oiling trouble shooting section. It's very detailed. I would continue to use premix until you're absolutely sure what's wrong.

What did you find when you pulled the oil pump and driven shaft? Any plastic shards?

Wow, busy forum! Leave a post alone awhile and it just about disappears. Has anyone considered sub-forums?

It's been two weeks since I connected the siren again and it's still not going off. Needless to say, I have not used the shop manual to troubleshoot anything, and I have not pulled the oil pump. The siren does give it's test beeps when you turn the igniton key, so it is working.

I am tempted to fill with straight gas, and then mix it if the siren starts going off again.

Can too much oil foul the plugs?

FYI
I am having the same oil siren issues.
Only I can't ge mine to stop going off. I downloaded the shop manual from bigger hammer.
(Sweet link by the way.) I have tested everything twice and i can,t find the problem.
What do I try now?

PS
I love table rock, I was there for the first time
in march. Stayed at Big Cedar.

Re: Oil Warning Siren

tablerock,
I just resolved my intermitant siren issues. In my case 1993-135, the plastic gear was only missing some teeth and the oil pump was still working but not to its full specs. As i understand it, with help from everyone hear, the sensor over the "driven shaft" counts revolutions and mine was not up to snuff due to jumping teeth so the buzzer would often sound but not all the time. Last week I bypassed the whole thing and removed all components. Hate to do it because I undertsand the VRO to make for a more efficient ideling motor, BUT now i do not wory at all. If you abandon your pump and go to pre-mix it will smoke less. It is nice not to have to worry about that buzzer anymore.
TH

Yeah, it's really a pain, not knowing what is causing something.

And, yes, I love the manual link, too. I knew it was out there somewhere, but without the right address . . .

We love Big Cedar and meet visitors to Branson there for lunch, at the Devils Pool Restaurant. We "stayed" there earlier this year, when some folks couldn't use thier timeshare reservations. They got quite a kick having guests from Lampe, just down the road. We wanted to go by boat, but it was cold and rainy.

We also entertain quite a few visitors, maybe 20 to 30 groups a year by taking them out on Table Rock. We had some Hoosiers out on the lake last month. That was the day the siren started going off again, so I just trolled them back to the end of the cove and we sat there, ate fried chicken, and caught bass.

Our boat is from Big Cedar also. It is a Fisher deck boat that was part of their rentals for one season, 3 months in 1998, before the Tahoes came out that year. They took their rental Fisher deck boats, but them on new Trailstar trailers, and took them up to Bass Pro to sell them. All those are owned by Bass Pro so they never had been titled.

We bought the first of 10 they had, and have loved it. I re-propped it last summer and dropped the cruising RPM from 5500 to 4200, without losing the holeshot. It took four props, four roundtrips to Cape Fair to do that.

It's been a good boat.

We were at Bass Pro last week and there still is nothing quite like it, although some Tahoes still have a small front fishing deck.

I have a 1994 18' Bass Tracker Pontoon w/Mercruiser 40 HP motor. The shrill warning siren is continuous, but only goes off when just idling in water. Is this an overheating problem? It stops as soon as we get going. Oil is full.

Hey Chuck, you need a W/P impeller. Yours is tired. Do yourself a favor and replace the upper housing at the same time. I think the kit is still about $45.

Re: Oil Warning Siren

Hey TableRock,
I have just been though all the same things with a 150. After checking and changing a lot of senders and bushings it turned out to be the alarm control box. The difference is the type of beep. It turns out that a continuous beep is an overheat or temp sender issue. The low oil is a "beep...beep...beep" About a second apart. A failure in the oil alarm box is a fast "beepbeepbeep". I had to bite the bullet and buy a new box, for about $200.

Re: Oil Warning Siren

All you guys with stripped oil gears should check out the Electronic Oil Injection system from www.pamlicomarine.com. You can install the kit yourself in about an hour and never have to worry about the gear or premixing again. See the feature article on EOI in the October 2004 issue of Bass & Walleye Boats.

I have had the same problem. Try checking the switchbox. The oil injection module is connected to one of the switchboxes. When the switchbox goes bad, it send a faulty impulse to the engine and sounds the oil alarm. Good luck, Joe.
