Background

Motor has set for 12 years. Was fogged before storage. No visible rust on piston heads. Good compression. New batteries (charged). Checked all connections and fuses.

Findings

Starter "clicks", armature will not engage or move. Key in ignition and turned to "start" causes an intermitent beeping from the control and an intermitent buzzing/static sound. Connecting battery directly to pos/neg starter terminals causes normal starter operation.

check the resistance of both red & black batt. cables and res. of sol. contact when energized . check black batt. cable res. to make sure you have a good ground. sounds like corosion. i would replace the pump impeller also if you get it to fire up. good luck

Troubleshoot with the "Outboard wont start" article in Engine FAQs, Dynapac.

Betcha you have a bad cable connection that looks okay.
