Loose Spring

On my 68 merc 1000, where the reverse lock hooks are I have a spring just hanging there. 1 end is attached, but the other end goes nowhere. The clymer manual stateds nothing about this spring. How is it supposed to be hooked up?<br /><br />cheers

Thats the reverse lock spring I think, one end goes thru the lock and the other goes around a roll pin. About 3/8" in dia. and 1 1/4 long?
