I am having a few problems starting my motor if i leave it sitting in the water.
When i first start the motor i prime it and it normaly starts on the first or second turn of the key however if i take the boat out and run it for a period of time then turn it off leave it sitting in the water for more than ten mins it becomes hard to start, should i be priming the engine before every time i start???

Sounds like the fuel pump has bad ck valves try a pump kit in it, I think to get the valves you need a Mercury kit--Bob

The pump or pumps depending on the seriel number are right on he side of the engine a very simple job

There may be nothing wrong with it. The re-start procedure is a bit tricky sometimes. Just turn the key. If it doesn't start right up give it a bit of choke as it may have cooled down and become cold.Priming will only fill the fuel line up to the pumps.

If i leave it for more than a couple of mins it needs choke our waters are very cold at the moment but if i leave it for say 10 mins it becomes real hard to start. this may be normal but it is even harder to start than when i fist start it in the morning how much throttle should i be giving it when i start?

I'd say it's your procedure........ or the idle needles on the carbs are mis-set.

-W
