I just bought this boat and had the engine serviced. I took it to the lake and it ran for about 10 minutes and then it would start and idle with the engine warmer lever in the upright position. The minute I placed it in forward it would die. Then it would start and idle again but would not run in forward. I brought it home and ran water to flush it and it ran well. It looks like the resistance of the water kills the engine. What does this mean? What is the problem? I changed all the wiring harness but not the stator yet. The wires that come out of the stator are corroded, would this be an issue. Is it normal for the carb to drip fuel, and if not why does it do it. Thanks.

The carbs shouldnt drip fuel. Sounds like you need a carb rebuild. It drips because the float is stuck or saturated.

cheers

Clean the carbs end to end, and do a link and synch as per my long post. Stator charges the battery, not part of this equation as long as the bat is fully charged.

-W

Ok, so my problem as described sounds like a carb problem. To clean them I have to remove them right. What is a link and synch? I have bought the manual for this book, its a seloc repair manual and it tells you how to do your own work. Do you recommend I try it myself or should I take it to the mechanic who serviced the motor and told me all was well. Should the mechanic have seen this issue. I asked them why the carbs leaked and they said it was normal. Full of sh....... I took it to the lake and thank god there was a cool guy who towed me back to the ramp. I was really dissapointed. What do you recommend me do at this point? Also when I apply the throttle the lever must come down pretty far to engage power. I think I need to adjust the cable in the engine. Is my thought correct? Thanks for helping.

if you want to try a quick fix. I wouldnt do this but you can 1st if you want.
1. Tap the carb bowls with the handle of a screwdriver to try and free a stuck float, then run a can of seafoam, or quicksilver's 'power tune' through it. See how that goes, but really you should pull and clean the carbs.

cheers

Link and synch is the tune-up methodology. Do a seach on this forum for a post by me with "timing and synch" in the header. Use the search function.

You could clean the carbs and tune it yourself, or if unhappy enough, bring it back and complain -
provided the service should have caught all this.

-W
