new to boating so i think it is called the skeg on the very bottom of the lower unit (fin) i think my is bent a bit can i straighten it out? if so how? 1973 merc 150 hp inline 6
when the motor is all the way down and shortly after plane the boat will "twist" and kind of turn to the right. this is the only thing i have found to be bent, it is bent to the right. i don't know how it was bent but i have only had it the water twice.

Re: skeg

Bent skeg no big deal.
Set trim tab to counter turn caused by direction of propeller.

Re: skeg

problem is that it's kind of bent like a fish hook just as any example not really a fish hook but the whole boat will tilt but stay straight on course and its not the weight in the boat either.

Re: skeg

Straight on course, no need to set tab.
Experts will confirm that it might be a set up problem, hydrofoil, etc. Give them all possible info about hull and they might respond.
My tilt problem disappeared when I dumped the foils.
D

Re: skeg

1969 glastron with a 1973 merc 150 on it v-hull, just got done gutting the boat and replacing the stringers, floor, carpet, seats, vinyl, etc. i have no hydrofoil on this motor just noticed the skeg was shaped like a fish hook also it looked warped. bought the motor from my brother in law.
