Ok last weekend I ask a question about oil injection and got some great advice. Now I need it again. I got a new rebuild kit for my fuel pump. It came with new nylon check valves instead of rubber. Someone who rebuilt this pump before used the new nylon check valves and the rubber check valves under them. The way they talk I should discard the rubber ones and only use the nylon. What do you pros do?

Any help given will help out a lot. I would like to get fishing this weekend.

Thanks in advance.. Steve

Re: 1987, 80hp fuel pump rebuild

Stick with the parts in the new kit and disgard the old parts. I have been told that the rubber type, used with the fuels of today, warp and cause performance issues. The new kits only come with the mylar/plastic type. Be careful putting the pins in that hold the mylar/plastic valves. Not much room and it's highly possibly to slip off the pins and dent the new valves(which aren't sold seperately.

Hope this helps.

I've seen only the plastic check disc used only quite often, i'm no pro but, in my merc manual the diagram clearly shows the rubber check valve being installed under the plastic check disc.

I'm only running the mylar in my 87-80hp. 3000 miles and no problems.

Thanks a whole bunch guys. I will only use the plastic ones. That is what I thought they were tring to tell me, but when I saw the rubber ones under the plastic I thought I would check.

It sure is nice to have this great site to check out.

Thanks again. Steve
