Merc 175 EFI thrmo stat location?

Never been changed and while I'm in there Is it a good idea to replace with a new one? It's 5years old. :confused:

I'm no expert, but if it's been used in saltwater, I'd say it's about time.<br /><br />There are two of them on your motor, one on each cylinder head, right at the top. They have the piece of tubing attached to the thermostat housing which has two bolts holding each of them on. It's a simple change. They are about 10-15 bucks each.

Might be time to do the head gaskets too. I usually do mine about every three years. The metal ring on the inside of the gasket starts to rust on some of them. I have had some of the gaskets looks good after 3-4 years and others almost rusted away. I just looked at the parts catalog, looks like you have different gasket than I have on my old 1989 200. Still might be work asking a good mechanic about them.
