Re: 9.9 Mariner high speed adjustment

Welcome to iboats.

I'm afraid I'm unclear as to what you're asking. Do you have the model or seral number? It would be different if it was built by Yamaha or Mercury, but in either case I can't picture a high speed adjustment as far as mixture goes. That's a fixed jet. The idle mixture screw should be in the ballpark of 1 to 1-1/4 turns out???

Re: 9.9 Mariner high speed adjustment

WillyBWright,
1995 Mariner, 9.9 but it has a 15HP carburator on it.
Have been told that there is only one idle adjustment, also told that when I put other carb on that I would have to accelerate slower, can't advance throttle quickly.
What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks for your help with this.
wormdunker69

Re: 9.9 Mariner high speed adjustment

The 15 carb jetting is going to be undeterminable without a lot of trial and error. The problem is that the carb isn't the only thing that makes a 15Hp a 15Hp and a 9.9 a 9.9. It's only part of the equation and nothing published in a service manual is going to help unless you do the complete conversion. The other thing is that you haven't made that 9.9 into a 15. it's somewhere inbetween.

WillyBWright,
What else has to be done to it? When I took it in to have it done I was told that the engine is the same on both that the carburator is the only difference.
Guess I got told a fib so he could make some money off of me, right?
Thanks,
Bill

Wilfred, I don't think anyone knows the answer as
I have seen similar examples of your question and have yet to see a definative answer. Wish I had enough knowledge to help.

north40
Thanks for the return, I adjusted the idle again on it and it seems to be running a lot smoother.
:) :D
