94 merc sport jet 90 starting problem

I purchased an Epic Sport boat with a 94 sport jet drive yesterday and am having no luck with starting, spark is excellent it just acts as though there is so much compression that the starter just gives out. Will crank well with one plug removed. Is there a compression relief valve that I am unaware of. Obviously i am new to jet drives, but have quite a bit of experience with 2 cycle out boards.<br /><br />Thanks

Have battery tested to see if it good. Also are you sure you are getting fuel to plugs. If battery checks out problem can be starter going bad.

I just ordered replacement brushes and sanded the commutater??? for my starter on a 150 black max... before it sounded like a weak battery - would just barely turn. Now it spins the engine faster than idle!!! Brushes cost less than $20 and 1 hour of time.

Starter has been rebuilt, that particular problem is now remedied. thanks!
