1995 15 hp merc water pump

Ok help<br />trying to replace water pump, can not get lower leg to drop more than an inch.It is in forward, drive shaft is out of crank as fly stops turning while turning prop.<br />My problem is with shift linkage? do I undo it up in the top end?<br />Iam I missing some thing <br />Thanks<br />Jeff

Do you have a shop manual? If not, I would suggest getting an OEM manual. Makes all maint. much easier.

This is a one time job for a female friend<br />Hope to never see this kicker again lol.<br />Don’t really want to buy a manual; I was hoping to get all the needed help from you merc specialists
