Ok, onto the next project :p

My engine (1966 Merc 950 O/B, 95hp, Inline 6) is HUGE (in comparison to me)...so it's really hard to tilt up manually due to the weight...so I have a couple questions...

1) Is there a trick to tilting it down/up while in the water so that it's only a 1 man job?
2) I already have 2 cylinders (on either side of the engine)...how easy is it to install a motor so that it's electric? Do I have to buy a whole kit (I realize I'd need a mounting kit for the motor) if I already have the hydraulics?
3) I lubed 1 point (that I could find) on the tilt and couldn't really find anywhere else...any place I could be missing?
4) Don't the cylinders need hydraulic fluid...? If so...what kind and where can I drain/add more?

thanks in advance!

You sure that's trim/tilt rams? If you can't see anywhere to attach a line to then they are probably just shocks. Mercs used to have them on the clamps.

Not sure on that. The best pix I have is below. You can see one of them on the right:

I can provide a better one later if need be. If these are shocks... what can I do to make this easier, aside from going to the gym to bulk up ;)

My shocks are so worn, I just leave them there. Yeah, it is back-breaking tilting that thing manually. Its not bad from inside the boat, but when on the ground, it is unpleasant. I just keep my eyes out for a factory trim rig for the inline 6's.

So it sounds like i have to get the whole setup...? Sorry, not too savvy on this whole trim/tilt dealio. It appears that my shocks are in great shape... I just need to find out the most cost efficient way to do this (and obviously safest).

Re: Tilt/Trim conversion to electric...?

Hey, I just found something in this forum...maybe I read it wrong... if you put it in forward (engine off) is it easier to tilt up? Is this a suggested practice or not?

I can't see why it would be any easier to tilt in forward.Anyone?

That whole setup that Iboats sell is a pretty good price IMHO-and you can always take it with you if you change boats/engines.I wish we could get them at that kinda price over here-they are 4 times the price for the same units!
