Re: RESULT - Blown Cylinder

im going to junk it. Just a shame really. Had a mate open up the inspection ports on the side, he said looks as though the rings are no good on that cylinder. Toooooo much money for me to replace. A big job to pull the head and replace.
I will try and get a few $$ for it on ebay or something.

Time to look for a new motor.....

cheers

Why not wait until tommorrow before you make a final decision, then at least you can get an opinion from clams?

After having been so busy with your boat restoration, I'd suggest you keep the inline as a rebuild project for your spare time (off season). In the meantime, best of luck on your search for the new powerplant. That boat certainly deserves a nice motor.

I think this is a Merc 1000 right? Rings are cheaply available, but if the piston itself is ruined, it's an uphill battle to get replacements - harder yet in .015 over.

If everything else on the motor was OK... I'd prolly take a run at fixing it. Shipping costs from Aussie will limit your Ebay success a bit.

-W

Just viewed your rebuild pics. From what I see the motor rebuild should be no problem for you at all. Just make her pretty on the inside and you are done.
