Re: 1987 mariner 150 rectifier

Are we talking about the recifier or the regulator?

The rectifier is small, about 2 inch square.

Chris..............

P.S. an engine serial number would be more useful for that engine. Thanks...

I have a Merc 150 of the same vintage, (which is the Identical engine except color) and there isnt even anything under the cover that is that big except the carb inlet cover. Someone is jerking you around.

Sounds like you are being lead. Rectifiers are NOT water cooled. Some regulators are. Don't know the serial number of your engine so I can't help anymore than that.

Item #17 is the rectifier and the new part number is -816770. try www.mercruiserparts.com for a price. It'll even give you a picture of one. :D

Better yet, take a digital photo of what you're talking about and post it here.

Re: 1987 mariner 150 rectifier

ok, I've had a look at the photo. Focus isn't too good and it's a bit close. Any chance of another photo? I think it's a regulator. Is it on the back of the engine or the side? I really need the serial number from your engine. Year isn't too helpful with Mercs. The serial number should be on a plate on the side of the swivel bracket (that's the bit that tilts up and down), you can also find it on the powerhead somewhere. Either on a aluminium disc, like a core plug, or punched into the top of the block.

Chris.............

!!! You got yourself an XR4 !!!

Yes it looks like the regulator on those engine is big, square, mounted on the back of the exhaust cover and is water cooled. Go for the boatfix replacement, much cheaper than that dealer was trying to hit you up for.

Chris............
