Re: tachometer options??

Both Merc and aftermarket are available you will need to ck your engine and see that the sender wire is hooked to a yellow wire on the rectifier termanal and if it is not move it from the switch box to the rectifier if it's already there it is a gray wire and if you need to move it from the switch box is a brown wire on the 4 post side of the box, once the wiring is right almost any new style tach will work

1. if I have a an original shift control box that has the plug on the front can I just use and orginal merc tach and plug it in. Can I assume the wiring is ready to go.

2. The wiring instructions you have above, is that just for using and aftermarket tach?

Sorry, I'm not sure I follow those wiring instructions. Please excuse my lack of understanding.

Re: tachometer options??

Once the tach sender wire is in the right place you may use a original factory plug in at the front of the box and Mercury or aftermarket tach as all modern tachs are alternator driven, your engine is 12 post, 6 pulse there is a adjustment on the back of each tach
