Tilt/Trim pump/motor

I purchase a used trim/tilt unit for my 1980 50 HP Merc.My question is, where does the pump/motor for the tilt unit mount? I think I have the Hydrolic rams figured out but I'm not sure where the pump goes.Does anyone know where I can get a copy of a picture or diagram for this unit. Is it possible it mounts on the transom and not directly to the motor? I need help !!! Someone please reply.<br />Thanks,<br />Fred

The pump and reservoir unit mounts inside the boat and has hydraulic hoses which run outside to the rams.

Thanks north40 I appreciate such a quick reply.Since you seem to be familiar with this setup can you tell me if the pivot arms that are connected to the hydrolic rams have to be attached to the transom itself? It looks like they they had bolts in them and were attached to somthing but I'm not sure what? I wish I had a diagram of sort because I'm doing this with zero instructions. Sounds like you are doing a conversion from a manual tilt. Without seeing your exact situation, I do not know exactly what to tell you. I am sure someone on here has the knowledge to help on your particular model.

FA, You might log onto www.dougrussell.com and look up your motor. They have the exploded parts list, and you may get some clues how it is installed. On my '77 Merc inline six, the Trim/Tilt rams connect to a special T/T bracket on the top, and the motor's triple clamp lower shock mount, on the bottom. The special T/T brackets are attached to the upper shock mount.

Thanks you for your advice. I am converting this from a manual tilt to hydrolic. Your both correct the pump mounts inside the boat and brackets mount on the transom with special brackets. Thanks again for your help.<br />Fred
