Newbie needs carb info for merc 888

I have a 73 merc 888 and the carb seems to need a rebuild. If that is the case, I'd rather upgrade to a 4 bbl. carb. Can I add a 4 bbl. to the existing manifold or does that need to be changed as well? Any suggestions?

Some 888 had a adatpter plate that could be taken off for a 4 barrel
