I have a few probelms with my old merc 9.8hp model 110. One big problem is there is no serial number placard on the thing and because i bought it used i have no what year it is, i've gone to a few websites to try to identify it. I know it is newer than 64 and older than 78, it has a red stripe on the cowling and sports the "thunderbolt ignition" logo on it. The problem is the fuel input on the front of the motor has a line behind it that is leaking, i broke off the brass hose fittings and removed the old hose. It appears that the ends of the brass elbows were crimped onto the hose permanently. How can i replace the hose and fittings that run from the input into the little box with the diaphram? I think the fittings may be 1/4" threaded, other than that i am at a loss. I am not sure they even make those parts anymore, anyway i could get this motor back in action?
-Justin

Re: Old Merc 110 fuel leak

Welcome to Iboats burnboyy!
The serial number is stamped on the powerhead (engine block) on the port side near the front. If you post that we can tell you what year it is. They're great little engines. The red stripe means its fairly old (pre-1973ish) I'm not sure what you mean about the fuel line. It sounds like you removed the line between the fuel coupling and the fuel pump and broke the brass barbed fitting off from the fuel coupling, which should be replaceable with any similar barbed fitting from a local auto parts store. The fuel line should be bought from a marine shop. Did you break the plastic barbed connection off of the fuel pump? If so you'd need to buy a new plastic piece for the fuel pump from a Mercury dealer.
Good Luck
Eric

Re: Old Merc 110 fuel leak

Well, i looked on the side of the motor mount and saw the two holes where the placard used to be, and i looked on the side of the motor and saw where some metal had been chiseled away, makes me suspicious about where the motor came from, anyhow no serial numbers but i found the impeller i needed and went to a small hardware store and found a 1/8" 90" hose fitting i bought two and some 1/8" fuel line, that problem is fixed, thanks for the help

I think i found the serial, it is on the plate that covers teh spark plugs on the left side at the top. My serial is 3007816 it was so coverd under black paint and grease i couldn't see it, but i do know that on serial and the placard was chisled off, i see the marks, i guess they over looked this one
