If it is oil, you most like need to have the propshaft seal replaced.

What color is this fluid?Maybe change the gear oil,and watch it.If the fluid is the same color as the oil you put in,it is probably a prop shaft seal or propshaft bearing carrier problem.<br /><br />IF it is the same color,I'd look at a complete reseal of the lower unit.All those seals are the same age.Also do a waterpump at the same time.<br /><br />If it comes apart like a 15 year old motor,you could be looking at 2 to 3 hours,parts could be around $120.Salt water your on your own.<br /><br />DHP

It could be unburned oil from combustion. You'll get that if you run a 2-stroke motor slow alot. Check the gearlube. If it's also black, it could be from there. Or if it's a 4-stroke it could be an oil leak, again if the engine oil is black.
