The temp gague on my 2002 225 efi saltwater is not working. It is in the farina multifuntion gague(temp, volts, trim, fuel). Can I put an aftermarket gague in and put it in an out of the way location? Like in the electronics box?
Thanks, Dead Eye

Re: temp gague

About 2 years ago I installed all new faria gauges. At first I didn't pull out the merc temp sensor (sender) and it worked, not sure if it read the right temps though (not smart in hindsight). I finally replaced with a faria temp sender and it changed very little.

If I had a little more engine knowledge then I would have replaced the sender right away. Better safe than sorry. Make sure overheat switch is working until you get it sorted out.

Good Luck

Re: temp gague

just bought the boat in the fall. During the water test i noticed the gague reading hot. The seller had the motor temp tested. seems the gague was wrong. The over heat alarm was tested and is OK. Seller wouldn't put a new gague in. (beat him up on the price and the surveyor found 1500.00 worth of other minor repairs he paid for). Any how I just wanted to put a seperate gague somewhere else on the boat. ( don't want the hassle of putting a new hole in the console)
Thanks, Dead Eye

Re: temp gague

I kinda confused. What do you want to do? Are saying that everything on the 4 in 1 gauge is working except the temp. gauge and that you want to rig a separate temp gauge.??

Re: temp gague

Before getting a new gauge, make sure that the temp sensor is bad. Also if the merc temp sender wasn't replaced with a faria sender this could lead to faulty readings on the gauge.

Out of curosity, where else would put the gauge other than the console. You would want to be able to monitor the temp easily.

Re: temp gague

I would put it in the t-top electronics box. Mount it on a board beside the radio. How do I know if it is a farina sender. Pro-Line boats came with farina gagues in 2002 . I would think Pro-Line would put gagues in that would be compatiable with senders.
Thanks, Dead Eye

Re: temp gague

If this is an original setup then the sender is compatible or the faria temp sensor is installed.

Just make sure the sensor is working before you replace the gauge. Start the engine and measure the resistance between the block and the sensor. If operating correctly the resistance should change as the engine warms up. If you search a little bit on the web or call faria you might be able to get the specs on the sender so you can test whether or not the sender is w/in spec.

Also, if the gauge is to blame I will call faria and give a hoot.
