Was just wondering yesterday in looking at my service manual. I understand how a carbureted 2 cycle lubes the mains, wrist pins, and rod bearings on the crank.

What I don't understand is how the EFI gets lubed? So in the case of the 200 mentioned, how do you get lube to the bearings mentioned? Since the fuel is squirted directly into the combustion chamber from the head.

Thanks,

Mark

The direct injection you speak of, i.e. injectors in the combustion chamber is a DFI (Optimax model). The injectors on an EFI squirt fuel into the crankcase. This is why 2 stroke EFI's are still not that efficient and don't pass the emission standards of tomorrow (or today in Cali). They still have the same scavenging problem, as far as inefficienices is concerned, as carbed models do.

Thanks Andy,

So, how does the DFI lube the bearings?

Mark

DFI lubes by directly injecting oil either into the crankcase air stream or the actual bearings where its turned into a mist. needles actually work better when not swimming in oil. as far as EFI most mix the fuel and oil at the vapor seperator or in the fuel line. suzuki used to inject oil behind the intake and fuel in the reed cage. but remember two strokes dont use sleeve type bearings.

Rodbolt.

So that means that they have 2 injectors; one where the sparkplug normally is (what the picture showed) and the other to lube the needles? Yes/No?

I'm basing my curiousity on pictures I found in my Merc Service Manual and they are talking about Merc's.

Thanks,

Mark

depends on if your taliking EFI or DFI. EFI mixes the3 oil and gas in the vapor seperator and injects it in the reed box area, DFI has oil injection nozzles in the crankcase and injects a fuel air mixture into the cylinders from the injector beside the spark plugs(optimax).
