Purchased my first mercury this week. 1992 60hp.
has intergrated oil tank on the motor. Ran fine at high and low speeds for aprox. 10 min, then constant (high temp) alarm sounded and will not go off. Pulled cowling and motor did not feel more than just barely warm at any point. Tell tail was peeing just fine. Now after 2 hours of sitting up, alarm still sounds when key is cut on. BAd alarm? How do I check it? This is my first merc, and first outboard with automix oil feature. Do you men fully trust these auto-oilers? Thanks for any and all advice.
Curt

Steady beeeeeeep= overheat alarm.
Beep beep beep is oil alarm.

Take oil tank off turn upside down with key on/not running. If alarm stops, oil tank float is cause. I went through module($95)temp sensors, new horn/ wiring and dealer saying I had to replace oil injection. Hopefully its float or module, injection replacement is expensive and most choose to disable and run 50 to 1 premix.

Do search on "oil or overheat alarm".

The constant alarm is overheat so forget the oil tank.

It's either the warning module bad or the overheat sensor is grounding out. Follow the overheat sensor lead from cylinder head and look for chaffed wires.

Disconnect the temp sensor and energize the circuit, if alarm goes away it is the sensor. If not it is the module. Although the alarm is for the temperature, check the oil level sensor to be sure. It only takes a few minutes. Disconnect the oil sensor and check for continuity on the oil sensor with a full oil tank. If continuity the sensor is bad, if none the sensor is fine.
I had the same indications happen to me and the module was the problem.
I have run the oil injection for 9 years now and only rebuilt the fuel pump. Monitor your oil usage to ensure it is working. Until you are certain you can run 50:1 mix.

Rockonafly

Thank you men for the advice. Should be able to pin-point the problem now. I am so unsure of the oil injection systems that I think I am going to run 50:1 pre mix and put my worries to rest. I have been an OMC man my whole life---this is my first mercury, and I am really impressed with the little motor. Might be changing to a Mercury man from here on out.
Thanks again for the help.
