I have a 50 hp blue stripe outboard, i had it running out on the river for the first time this year for about 20 min. when it shut off on me, the water pump impeller was shot so i replaced the water pump. When i got the lowerunit reinstalled and the engine ran rough, i tried some new gas/oil and messed with the mixture screws but it still ran rough and dieds at idle. Since then i took the carbs off and made sure the floats wernt sunk and causing it to run rich but the carbs were fine. I dont know if it got over heated and fried something or what?

Dustins;

Start with a compression test on all cylinders. If it's low on any cylinder you may have done some damage from the overheat.

I could get to 3 of the cylinders, the top 2 where 90 ,and the 2nd to the bottom was about 85. I could only test it cold.

Thats low-probably too low. I personally haven't seen one test at less than 100psi cold that isn't dying. On the +ve side the readings are all within 10% of each other so you might ghet away with using some seafoam/redex on it.

Rodbolt or Clams will be able to tell you if it's saveable but it might be cheaper and easier to buy a replacement powerhead.

I got it running by messing with the high idle and mixture screws.
