Is there a difference between 2 stoke and 2 cycle oil? 1976 115 hp Mercury, model 1150 ser# 4313752.
And does running to rich mean not enough oil in the mixture?
Thanks Eric

2-stroke and 2-cycle are both interchangeable terms. Make sure you only use a good quality TCW3 rated 2 stroke marine oil in your fuel mix.

'Running rich' typically means that the motor is getting to much fuel mixture. For example you could have a perfect mix ratio of oil to gas, but the carbs could supply too much mixture and run the motor too rich, ie. flooding.

Eric, It that motor is running rich at idle, there is an adjustment. However, if it idles OK, leave it alone, since it needs to be rich in order to accelerate propoerly. If it is running rich at high speed, either the main jets in the carb are loose, oversize or damaged. Normally this doesn't happen, but if it is the case, tightening or replacement is the fix.

Also, that motor was jetted a bit lean for it's own good when it was manufactured.
