only run with full choke

Hi all, I have a 5 hp 2001 mercury that will not run unless fully choked, soon as you push choke in motor dies. motor was in storage for a year and a half with gas tank half full. Motor is like new only has about 7 hours of run time on it. Thanks in advance for any advice

The carb is varnished up you will need to clean it and start over with fresh fuel

yes clean that carborator use new gaskets and get a neadle and seat and a float .change the fuel unless it is new .. if you got a fuel filter in line change it .. and make shure the fuel pump is good shape get the kit for that too ..

also, after the carb, make sure it is pumping water, impellers are noted to become hard and break if let sitting up.
