Magnet chunks on the engine, ran OK in fall (small lake pontoon boat) What caused failure? Looks like three hole puller removal, I don't have impact available there. What is the torque on the shaft? How do I lock the shaft to torque? Any advice appreciated, know a whole lot more about 60's Pontiacs than outboards.

1999 Mercury 40HP 4 stroke OG864486 1-F40412VD. Net says 284-83201T31 (which supceeded 284-832010T14 flywheel) low low hours on motor.

Should I contact Merc for sympathy?

Thanks

PJ

If a flywheel is hit with anything or flexed the magnets will break, some just come unglued and self destruct as far as torquing the nut I use a automotive flywheel tool that works good

Got the flywheel off, 1 magnet gone, another half gone. Anyone have a flywheel stamped 284-832010C or can point me to the cheapest source for a new one?

I assume reassembly torque on the nut will be as tight as I can get it?

Thanks!
