Good day everyone,
Just bought a very low hours 30 HP Mariner manual start. I took it out for first time this year and water was coming out of the tell-tale just fine, but also noticed warmer water dripping from shift area. Water was collecting inside the cowl (minimal) and finding it's way out by the shift lever. I took cowl off and tried to see where water was coming from, but since it was kinda rough I thought I'd better not mess around on the water.
Is there a gasket, a clamp or seal somewhere I should be checking or is this water pump problem??? I am hoping this is fairly common. I would appreciate the benefit of the wisdom out there on this forum site.

Thanks in advance,

Ancient Mariner 51

Welcome to iboats AM.
Water could be from any number of locations, most likely via a leaky gasket. Could be powerhead gasket, head gasket, manifold gasket etc. Could also be a leaky telltale fitting or cracked hose. You will have to do a little detective work to try and pinpoint the source.
The one thing that it is not is the water pump. That is located at the top end of the lower unit. I'm sure someone else with more experience will come along and point you in the right direction.
