Trying to replace impeller on a 1965 Mercury
(Merc 200) outboard. Parts list shows part number as 47-26554. I have the correct part but the impeller seems to be way larger than the pump housing. Any suggestions on installation.

Re: Water Pump (Impeller)

in my experience in replacing water pumps, the plastic impeller will be a bit larger than the hole it fits in but the fins should bend under pressure to fit tight. In that model, I don't know if it should be CW or CCW. Maybe someone else will know exactly. Good luck!

Yea,

What you need to do is slide the impeller on the driveshaft with the impeller key installed. Now install the gasket/sealer if required.

Then take the pump housing and use some lubrication on the inside where the impeller blades will touch. KY works good :p .
Slide the housing down onto the impeller.. Push down on the housing and at the same time turn the drive shaft "clockwise". THe blades will start to bend and eventually it will fit into the housing.
