I have an 1989 Mariner 115hp Outboard that I bought new in 1993. I take good care of my toys and didn't expect this to happen. The oil line from oil resevoir to the fuel pump deteriorated and failed at the oil pump with the expected engine damage. Can anyone tell me if Mercury put out service bulletin(s)on this problem? Was/could this have been caused by reformulation of there oil? I've got a factory Service Manual and have never seen any kind of warning about replacing this line. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Common! Happens quite often, I know of a couple of guys on different forums that have had the same problem and blown thier engine also.
I just changed mine a while back as a precaution. Both hoses are less than $20 and enough to change them twice. I think it should be listed in the service section, but unfortune for all they do not and some never change them.

Gary,
Thanks so much for takimg the time to write. I'm going to start this week with phone calls to Mercury dealers to see if I can get anyone to fess up to any service bulletins on this problem. If there is ,I'm going to sic the Missouri Attorney Generals Office on them as I got no where with some weasel at the Office of the President of Mercury. Like I said, I take care of my toys and if I had known about this problem I would have regularly changed the lines. Mercury has definately lost me as a customer.
Thanks again,
John
