2002 225 EFI 2 Stroke
Put new poppit Sat. Ran the boat still reading 200 deg when over 2500 rpm. If I keep it under 2500 the temp is fine. At idle the motor cools off. I have the boat in the water and don't want to pull it if I don't have to. The previous owner said he put new therms in last Sept. My question is COULD the problem be therms? I don't want to hear water pump but if that is the problem so be it.
Thanks, Dead Eye

You should do all at the same time. T-stat, impeller and poppit valve, better safe..

If thermostats it would most likely overheat period. A poppit valve would do the same. I hate to bring it up but when is the last time you changed the water pump?

Boat new to me in Sept 05. Owner said therms and water pump were new that year. How do the therms work. They open at a certian them to allow more water to flow through the motor?
Any way to the water pump I go.
Dead Eye

Obviously, you do not have a water pressure guage installed. How is your "pee stream" water flow indicator. The thermostats should open at 143 degrees, allowing water circulation, the poppet should open at 2500 rpm or there about. If you had a water pressure guage, you would see the pressure drop temprary, then rise, and temp drop immediately. I think I would be checking the poppet for proper opening (operation, not sticking). Did you save the old poppet spring? If so, maybe cut a short amount off of it and try again. If the poppet was opening early(low rpm) it would heat up at low (idle rpm) because it would be dumping water too soon. I just find it hard to thing that the impeller would go that fast, unless installed wrong.

I did not replace the spring. Only the diaphragm and the gaskets. If I was BSed about the therms and the water pump : would bad therms cause overheating at high RPMS? The pisser flow is great, increased flow as rpms increase. The water in the stream stays only warm as temps go up. I would think the stream would get HOT. Put my hand on the head ant could only hold it there for a 2 sec.
Thanks, Dead Eye
