radio shack sell a little cataletic (sp) type that uses butane fuel. comes with different size soldering iron heads & can screw on an attachment that can be used as a mini flame torch.. it's neat !!

And you can keep it in your tackle box! I have a couple and they are really cool. Wouldn't repair a PC board with it, but for splicing wires and such it's a dream.

Butane soldering irons are handy for small jobs, but can be hazardous where you set them down(small almost invisible flame). <br />For real wiring jobs, choose a Weller D-650 or D-550 minimum...

Howdy, Chumbucket.<br /><br />I agree with Schematic. <br /><br />The Weller D650 makes enough heat to splice up to #8 wire and it is relatively cool between joints. Much less hazard.<br /><br />The little butane torch is very handy in your survival toolbox aboard. :)

Thank you gentlemen and if any scholars thanks to. Doing some rewireing and elbow greese beats 40,000 for new boat Schematic just kiddin about hoilday inn like on tv.
