radio shack sell a little cataletic (sp) type that uses butane fuel. comes with different size soldering iron heads & can screw on an attachment that can be used as a mini flame torch.. it's neat !!
And you can keep it in your tackle box! I have a couple and they are really cool. Wouldn't repair a PC board with it, but for splicing wires and such it's a dream.

Butane soldering irons are handy for small jobs, but can be hazardous where you set them down(small almost invisible flame).
For real wiring jobs, choose a Weller D-650 or D-550 minimum...
Howdy, Chumbucket.

I agree with Schematic.

The Weller D650 makes enough heat to splice up to #8 wire and it is relatively cool between joints. Much less hazard.

The little butane torch is very handy in your survival toolbox aboard.
Thank you gentlemen and if any scholars thanks to. Doing some rewireing and elbow greese beats 40,000 for new boat Schematic just kiddin about hoilday inn like on tv.
