Well we had a gorgeous day, 55 degrees, sunshine and we expected 2 days of rain to follow.

So I ran across the street to the county property we st ore our boats on and grabbed my boat.

If you recall I finally just pulled the covers off as it was so wet inside it made no sense to leave them on.

Had mold, had moss growing in the rubber strip around the deck/hull....

Nothing a bu cket of bleach water didn't cure though.

The carpet was still wet and I put the summer covers on as they have huge gaps and allow the boat to breath.

And then it started raining again, albeit not as bad as last month when it rained almost 28 days straight and very heavy on top of that.

So, the question is, will a month of being rain soaked hurt my boat at all?

I'm sooooooooooo looking forward to spring and taking the boat out on the sound with the engine running good, a new propeller that matches the engine/outboard.....

:)

I see you'vre been getting the same weather as we have up here :(
As for the rain hurting your boat... some floors aren't sealed very well and can rot if left wet for extended periods. Other than that you should be ok. It's good to let the boat breathe but in a heavy rain I'd leave it covered completely then let it breathe again once the rain stops.
Man, I can't wait for the weather to change too... all this rain's driving me crazy!
C'mon summer-time!

bbq steak and ice cold beer on the boat = yummy :)

I couldn't go to the Seattle boat show this year. Stupid girly football got in the way. They closed bown the boat show before the last weekend so the Seahawks could play against somebody...

I've watched them from Gabriola Island. That's a very entertaining sport when it's rough :)

Hey All

New to the forum here. Scott, I too live in the Puget Sound area, I put an electric dry air in my boat and it keeps the interior nice and dry. They also make chemical ones that do not require power.

Well we had another rainstorm, worst I've heard or seen here as long as I can remember, and I had just pulled the rear cover off my boat.

Went out the next day, which turned out to be sunny, and it was HALF way dry, not bad....I think it will survive but I'm going to build the PVC quanson hut thing in my boat this coming weekend.....

Here's a pic I took yesterday :)

Nothing like leaving your boat out in the weather to make it age prematurely. I live in the same area, rains all the time, day after day this year.

Get one of the Costo shelters they cost about $160.00, they're 10' X 20', but you can put 2 of them together if you need it to be longer. If you keep the boat dry and out of the weather it will easily double it's life.

There's some good advice. Portable shelters are popular here as well. Make sure you anchor it down or you'll have it 'cartwheeling' down the road... like one did here not long ago.

Re: It stopped raining! (Sort of)

I gave up on the teepee thing I built at the beginning of winter and bought a real canopy. This is the best one I found 2" steel tubing with four legs per side instead of the usual three. I found it at Lowes for $180. The only thing it didn't come with was states to anchor it. I just got some those from the local hardware store. I needed a pretty sturdy one because we often have high winds and get a couple of snow showers off and on through out the winter. It's working out great...it's sitting on the side of my house right now with 2" of snow on it that fell last night. The boat...completely dry :D I would definitely suggest it. $200 is well worth keeping the boat dry therefore increasing it's life.

Here's a pic and a link to their website.

http://www.variflex.com/motoshade.asp?action=xt

See previous posts - we get to use co un ty property but the restriction is 'No structures'.

They nixed that idea :(

I need to re-upholster the boat anyway but next year I'll have something better in place.

I'll do the pvc bent pipe thing this weekend and hope it holds out until spring, or whenver the rain stops - whichever comes first...

Re: It stopped raining! (Sort of)

Well I was on my way home tonight - and it started POURING out, coming down in buckets.

So I hurried home, got this brainstorm to lift the two by four that i ran from the windshield to th back of the boat.

I built a T and turned it upside down, draped the cover on and tied it down tight in front and on the sides, so it looks like an old army tent.

the back is open 2 or 3 feet long and 1 foot tall - but there's a greenbelt behind the boat so no rain will get in that way.

I think this might work! The angle is good to hopefully keep the rain from puddling up......

Timewill tell, if it works I'll stick with it next year - worked on my neighbors 15 foot boat but it's got an outboard holding the two by four up (That's where I got my idea)....and his is not as wide.......that may be an issue on my boat.

Thanks for all the tips tho, lets hope this works!

I don't see any splits in your upholstery, why do you want to change it? I do the double blue poly tarp.....Though I do like what I see above....No drought this year :D .....JK

There are 3 or 4 places where it split and is cracked, it's old but may be useable another year or so....if I keep it moist.....ie armor all or something :)

How'd ya like that rain squall yesterday? Started pouring again last night as I was falling asleep - coming down in buckets.

Will it ever end.... :)

Re: It stopped raining! (Sort of)

Here too. That rain and wind was nasty... a few thousand homes out of power on the Peninsula overnight. The front page of yesterday's paper had a picture of a big tri-maran washed up on the beach in Oak Bay... with a for sale sign in the window. Ouch. There's another big sailboat on the beach in Brentwood Bay. My boat survived and all the canvas is still on it. I went to check on it after work and the marina was just a-flying with peoples tarps. All this rain has people tarping their boats and then wind took most of them off. Outside the breakwater and through the channel there was a good 8' to 10' sea. Not nice.
