Do some searches on "Hydrofoil" and "smart tabs".

This topic has been covered here many times. General consensus on this board is that Smart Tabs are significantly better, just a bit more expensive up front.

The problem with hydrofoils is that every time you touch the trim button or turn the steering wheel, it affects how the hydrofoil functions. That can mean unpredictable handling characteristics. Trim tabs are fixed and much more efficient. Hydrofoils also tend to slow you down a few mph and trim tabs don't.

Re: Sting R ay Stabilizers or Smart Tabs

I had a Sting Ray Hydrofoil on my first boat, it did slow me down, it would get me on plane quicker, it did hold the bow down to much, I used more fuel, I have Smart Tabs on my current boat which I have run enough to know they do as advertised. I am down to fine tuning the adjustment on them if I can just get back in the water.

Its allways been the money when it comes to the decision wheather to go one or the other. The smart Tabs are the way to go. They are infinatly adjustable and they dont put undue strain on the outboard. Best product I have ever seen for a boat.

Quit drinking, quit smoking, whatever you have to do to be able to afford the Smart Tabs. :D

With power trim tabs, (mine are Bennetts) I can adjust them for sea conditions, when it's rough I can trim down the the bow so the hull cuts through the slop instead of pounding. It's slower and harder on fuel, but much more comfortable.

When it's calm I can trim up and run faster for the same throttle setting.

I highly recommend them.

I have used stingray, hydrofoil and smart tabs. No contest for ease of use and performance, Smart tabs by a mile.

Mike;

Given where you boat and your apparent experience in boating, I am sure you are proficient in manipulating the helm controlled trim tabs.

I have always stated that the choice in helm controlled trim tabs vs. Smart Tabs is personal preference and the way the boat is used. Destination boats are more likely to be served better with helm controlled tabs, Sport boats are more likely better served with Smart Tabs. Of course there are exceptions as always, but one needs to think in terms of what else is going on while piloting the boat.

As a side note; if the motor or OD has tilt & trim the bow can be raised and lowered while cruising even with Smart Tabs. The side to side adjustment is limited to the automatic function of Smart Tabs.

To everyone else;

It is gratifying to know that you are all satisfied with our product! Thanks for the good comments.
