The very small orfice on the lower unit of my motor that is the speedometer pick up is clogged up. I used a very small drill bit and cleaned out as much trash as possible by hand. I think I have gotten as far as possible with a solid striaght tool but it is still clogged.

What could I use that is flexible enough to make the upward bend yet solid enough to extract the material? I tried compressed air but it didn't work, any suggestions?

Hey Bozo(man I like calling people that), find a disconnect for the hose that comes from the motor into the boat at the transom, and disconnect it. Then blow air through the connection, down the motor and out the pickup(peeto) hole. Hope it works.

Re: Yamaha 115 Speedo pickup

I tried that. I disconnected it where the tubing is exposed right above the lower unit and have been able to determine that the clog is below that point. I have a clear shot from that point to the guage. I know that becuase I blew compressed air from that point towards the gauge and it measured the speed....Heck I was going 87 mph while it was sitting on the trailer in my driveway until the hose blew off the back of the gauge. :D

I digress.....anybody know what that tube is made of going through the lower unit part of the motor?

I was thinking about using a solvent or something but, if it is some sort of plastic, I don't want to chance eating a hole in it. I don't know if a hole in that line would allow water to infiltrate the lower unit oil if the clog was cleared along with eating a hole in the tubing.

Should be metal casted/drilled in lower foot. Did this speedo work fine before? I would blast on it with some B12 with the small red tube on it.  :)

Thanks Bushcat.

I assumed that it would be....you know what they say about assuming though.

I will hit it with some carb stuff and see if that will do it.
