Yamaha F100 Trim and Tilt Problem

I have a Yamaha F100 that has suddenly developed a annoying problem. When I tilt the engine all the way up to trailer the boat the unit will not power back down. You must release the pressure release valve to get the motor down. Once down the unit works fine. It does not leak down and performs as designed under normal situations. I have checked and changed the fluid, bled the air with no effect. It only hangs if you raise the motor all the way up. Any thoughts or tricks to try. Thanks in advance.

Yes it is a single ram system. It will come down if you do not raise it high enough to engage the trailering lock. Under normal operation it will not come down without first raising it a little and then hitting the down button. In other words it requires a up quickly and the down. Down by it self under power doesn't work. Bump it up and then down quickly.

It stays on a trailer all the time when it's not in the water. I keep it down when sitting in the garage.

hello
I did not find any tech bulletins on that unit. post your model and seriel and I will try parts smart. but I saw one of those units that actually had the 6 tiny steel balls etch themselves int the casting. is this unit still under warrenty? are you on good terms with the yammi dealer?
good luck and keep posting

Re: Yamaha F100 Trim and Tilt Problem

You have to change 2 valves.
The part number is 6T4-43802-03 in the parts catalogue, and the number changes to 67F-43802-00. Go to your dealer and look at the parts catalogue.
You don´t have to remove the whole trim&tilt from the engine. One of the valves is on the backside of the trim, so you have to remove the lover "bolt" and turn the whole trim around to change the other valve on the back side.
I had change many of these for the same reason, and after that they are working well. :)
If you give your e-mail adress, I can try to send a pic of it.

I have a parts catalog for the engine. It appears you are talking about the two main valve assemblies. Should I replace the shuttle valve as well ?

To Ya-man

I have had the same problem. I live here in Canada and will try to get the parts I need. Can you email the picture as you offered bamafan?

Rodbolt,

Can you give more details on the 1999 150 O2 sensor problem. You say Yamaha is willing to replace it even when warranty is expired. How do I find out that they would do it for me?

hello
the sensor was so clogged we could not clean it. yamaha gave the customer a new one. but your dealer will have to call and ask and explain any circumstances. we happen to know all the service history on the engine and the customer uses yamalube.
try your dealer.
yamaha is very good about assisting
