I have a 2001 30 horse yammy. 3 cylinder. When i bought it the dealer told me to use ringfree but i never did. The motor has about 100 hours on it. should i shock it like it says on the bottle...2 ounces per gallon?..or a lesser amount because its fairly new?

hello
why bother with it now? if your concerned then use the decarb in a can then use the ring free normally. maint is something you do as a rule not when the thought strikes. if your going to use ring free use it all the time otherwise just decarb every 100 hours with the spray.
good luck and keep posting

Re: How much ring free additive??

I just had it in for service. They checked and cleaned the carbs. I am just wondering if i need to clean the carbon deposits inside the motor? Should i use it full strength (shock it..2 ounces per gallon) or just use the minimal amount.( 1 ounce for 15 gallons). or somewher in between? I just dont want to shock it if its not necessary. Motor has about 100 hours on it and have used only yammalube ( non synthetic) and premium gas.

parrotthead,

I use ring free on a regular basis, but just the maintenance traetment. When i bought it the guy at the register was sure quick to tell me that you must do a shock treatment....sounds like a ploy to sell more ring free...2 oz. per 1 gallon of gas, and the maintenance is 1 oz per 8 gallons, that is a big jump. All I have ever done is the maintenance treatment, and I just overhauled my carbs and they looked new. Just do the maintenance treatment and check/ clean your plugs every now and then.
